Los Cafres – Barrilete

A laid back groove from this Argentine reggae group has smooth, universal appeal with it’s sort of hip-hoppy feel and some sweet bluesy guitar fills. Off of “Barrilete”, 2007.

Young Jeezy – I Do (ft. Jay-Z & Andre 3000)

Heard this track on a random hip-hop station in Puerto Rico and started groovin’ with a huge goofy smile on my face. Jeez, Jay and and Andre come together to deliver this feel good club/car jam on Young Jeezy’s 2011 album TM:103. I also noticed that one of the samples they used is the same one that’s in Twista’s Kanye-produced “Overnight Celebrity.”

Erick Sermon (ft. Marvin Gaye) – Music

Music to me is an expression of the spirit and soul unlike any other. This track from Erick Sermon’s 2001 album Music articulates the power of music and combines a smooth delivery from Sermon and Marvin Gaye’s musical genius (sampled from “I’ve Got My Music” on the bonus disc of Gaye’s 1982 album Midnight Love) with a sneaky-funky bassline, a minimal guitar riff, and classic hip-hop drums. This is the essence of music. “La dah dah dah dahhh, dah dahh, dah. Doo-doo-doo, doo doo . . . “
