Miley Cyrus – “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go”

I can safely say I never thought I would post a Miley Cyrus tune, but here we are.  For some reason, I seem to be posting a lot of covers lately, but this one straight blew my mind – my buddy played it for me and let me take infinite guesses at who was covering the Bob Dylan song “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” (off his 1975 album Blood on the Tracks), and I never got close.  Definitely a different side of Ms. Montana.  This song is out on the 2012 compilation CD Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International – pick up a copy if you’re a Dylan fan and want to support a good cause.

Chromatics – I’m on Fire

Kinda slow, but I’ve really been digging this Chromatics cover of the classic Bruce Springsteen cut “I’m on Fire”.  Originally on the Boss’s 1984 record Born in the U.S.A., Chromatics released their own version on their 2010 EP In the City. Very different from Chromatics’ usual electronic/dance/disco pop sounds, which you should also check out.

Broken Bells – The High Road

Fellow contributor dipcity has repped Broken Bells (comprised of Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, and James Mercer of the Shins) in the past, but I might like this track even a little more.  Off the 2010 self-titled debut album.  Little slower than “The Ghost Inside“, but I dig the great vocals from Mercer.

Trampled by Turtles – Rebellion (Lies)

Pretty legit cover of the Arcade Fire cut “Rebellion (Lies)”.  The song was originally released by Arcade Fire on their 2004 debut album “Funeral”, and covered here by Trampled by Turtles as a part of The A.V. Club annual series where The A.V. Club and its fans select a group of songs to be covered, and bands are invited in to cover the song of their choice.  The bluegrass feel lends itself well to this one.  If you’re not familiar, check the original version by Arcade Fire as well.

Santigold – L.E.S. Artistes

Been guiltily jamming to this Santigold tune for a while now.  Chorus is just too catchy.  Off her 2008 album Santogold.
